Russia’s 65th Victory Parade on Red Square
Posted by myps | Filed under HOT Issues
May 9, 2010 is a special day for all the Russians.Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev, opening the 65th Victory Parade on Red Square in Moscow on Sunday morning, lauded the indomitable courage and strength of the Soviet people who stopped the hordes of fascists and put an end to Nazi ideology aimed at annihilating whole nations.
“The Great Patriotic War forged the Russian national character, and Victory Day rallies the people to achieve great results,” said President Dmitry Medvedev. “It really was a terrible ordeal for our people. But this war has forged our national character, and now we are not afraid of anyone. We are able to overcome the most serious challenges. We are strong, we are successful.” The President expressed confidence that this unique festival will unite the Russian people even more “to achieve the great results, the country faces.” The President recalled that almost 27 million people in WWII were killed defending their homeland, Russia. “But these sacrifices were not in vain, because today we can see how people get together and remember those events of the past. We all owe our veterans, if not for their very terrible plight, we simply would not be. Let us say thanks to them.” said President Medvedev, inviting the audience to enjoy the concert. Then all the people attended the parade kept one minute of silence to commemorate these dead heros.
After that, drummers and flag-bearers marched through Red Square at 10:00 a.m. as the 65th Victory Parade began. They were followed by troops dressed in World War II military uniforms. Marching alongside Russian servicemen were soldiers from countries of the anti-Hitler coalition-the United States, Britain, France and Poland, and troop units from post-Soviet Republics. Then, legendary Soviet T-34 tanks rolled through, followed by modern weaponry, including the Topol-M heavy ballistic missile launchers. The leaders of more than 20 countries and other foreign guests were overseeing the parade which wound up in a spectacular air show. Also there are about three thousand old soliders of Russia attended this parade. They wore military uniform and these old heros were very happy to watch this parade.Simultaneous victory parades took place in all cities of Military Glory across Russia.
